Aluminum roller cage with anti-skid unit

Standard: 7660 Ø40

The aluminium roller cage with Agathon rollers is characterized by its low weight and good thermal conductivity. It is particularly suitable for applications where not only high load capacity and stroke frequencies of up to > 2500 strokes/min are required from the rolling guides, but also high guide rigidity.

Advantages

    • Suitable for purely axial movement
    • The backlash-free preload (use of columns, rollers and bushings with a suitable fit) enables high-precision guidance of the stroke movements
    • The dense assembly with rolling elements ensures high load capacity and rigidity
    • Patented caulking of the rolling elements ensures a long service life
    • Easy handling and maintenance
    • Low lubricant requirement
    • High load capacity with very good rolling properties
Caulking

Caulking of the rollers (patented)

The special, patented caulking of the rolling elements in the cage increases the holding force and reduces the risk of rolling elements being knocked out. The cage material formed during caulking only touches the roller on non-rolling surfaces.
The Agathon rolling guides thus meet the requirements that can occur on new high-performance automatic punching presses (up to over 2,500 strokes/min) or in horizontal use in injection mold making.

    Advantages:
    • No frictional contact of the cage on the rolling zones of the Agathon roller
    • Minimized friction on the contact surfaces between the roller and retaining pocket thanks to improved surface quality
    • Defined optimized play of the roller in the cage, the roller is only caulked from the outside
    • Greater dimensional accuracy of the retaining pocket and more precise alignment of the cage and retaining pocket axes

Cage material

Aluminum roller cage

Thanks to the patented shape of the mounting pockets for the rollers, this cage can withstand very high travel speeds (up to approx. 150 m/min) and has a high guide rigidity with a medium load capacity. The mounting aid makes it easier to position the cage during installation.
The special profile of the Agathon rollers allows a higher preload than with the Profile Roller?? and prevents asymmetrical load conditions. The forces are distributed evenly over four contact ellipses. This and the low inertia forces (at the reversal points of the longitudinal movement) due to the low mass allow higher stroke frequencies.
These roller guide units are paired! The preload on the roller cage is 0.005 to 0.02 mm, depending on the column diameter. Depending on the roller class (the roller class can be read off the cage) and the tolerances of the columns or bushings, the inner diameter of the bushings is not reworked. Reworked bushings are marked with K1 or K2.

Design of the cage

Stroke path

Due to the preload, the rollers in the cage are inevitably pulled along by force. As a result, they and therefore the cage only travel half the working stroke. This must be taken into account when designing the guide.
In order to prevent the cage from moving and thus possibly overloading the rolling elements, at least 50 % of the cage should remain in the bushing (and thus in the preload) during operation.
The cage should only be extended from the bushing if the radial force or moment load on the guide (and thus the radial load distribution of the forces on the rolling elements remaining in the preload) is low when extending/retracting into the preload. However, the prerequisite for this is that a cage retention/positioning system is used.

Preload

Definition of preload

Preload is the calculated difference between the inner diameter of the bushing (d2), minus 2x the rolling element diameter (dk), minus the column diameter (d1). The result expressed in μm in the minus range is referred to as the preload (in relation to the diameter). The individual components must compensate for this value through deflection. The maximum material load capacity up to the permanent deformation is specified by the Hertzian surface pressure (in our case 4,400N/mm for ball guides or 4,200N/mm for roller guides with a linear contact zone).

Maintenance and lubrication

Maintenance

● After delivery: Remove rust inhibitor from the centering

● During maintenance: Remove old grease without residue, a washing process is recommended

Lubrication

● Apply new lubricant to the cage of the column guideway

Agathon rolling guides are practically maintenance-free, but a minimum amount of lubrication is required.

The cages are lightly oiled on delivery. They should be washed and lubricated before installation.

Basic lubrication (ball bearing grease with high pressure absorption capacity) before use or during servicing/maintenance increases the service life of the guideway.

Different products can be used depending on the application - a higher quality universal grease is often used.

Use without lubricant is not recommended (e.g. applications in clean rooms, food industry, etc.) - please contact the application technology department for any special solutions.

In the case of extremely high loads and long periods of use, lubricant can also be added periodically during use. Oil is used to flush away any particles/foreign bodies.
